Selective universities collectively received at least $60 million in donations from the Sackler family, which owns the maker of OxyContin, a primary contributor to the ongoing opiate crisis.

The Associated Press reported on the higher education institutions that have received gifts from the Sacklers, who own Purdue Pharma. Some of the donations came in before recent lawsuits were filed blaming the pharmaceutical company for its role in the opiate epidemic. But at least nine colleges accepted gifts last year or later, according to the AP.

The largest Sackler gifts went to Yale University, Imperial College London and the University of Sussex. Cornell University, Columbia University, Rockefeller University and the University of Oxford in England also were major beneficiaries, the AP reported.
