Report Examines Confusion Over Aid Award Letters
Higher ed experts agree that financial aid award letters from colleges are inconsistent and confusing for students.
A report released this week by CampusLogic looks into what students and parents find most perplexing about the letters. The company surveyed more than 1,000 students and 750 parents in July and August in addition to 230 financial aid experts.
It found that the items that most confused students and parents often weren't what was expected by those financial aid experts. And lower-income households, which would most benefit from simple-to-understand financial aid options, found the most challenges deciphering award letters.
The report recommends more research into how financial aid information is conveyed to students as well as what information is most important to communicate.
