The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has restarted its search for a new chancellor after receiving public and internal pushback to a previous candidate, the Associated Press reported.
The board paused its search in April after news surfaced that several board members opposed selecting Sonny Perdue, a former Georgia governor and former U.S. secretary of agriculture, for the chancellorship.
Board members voted to reboot the search after an accrediting agency asked if members felt political pressure to appoint Perdue. If the board doesn’t find someone to replace outgoing chancellor Steve Wrigley before he retires June 30, it will appoint an interim leader.
The board will also hire a second firm to help with the search process after the previous firm, Parker Executive Search, quit, the Albany Herald reported.
