Xavier University has secured an anonymous $50 million gift, which will help it establish a new College of Osteopathic Medicine, the university announced Tuesday.
The gift equals the largest donation made in the university’s 192-year history, awarded last year.
Xavier, a private Jesuit institution in Cincinnati, plans to use the gift to launch the country’s first Jesuit osteopathic medical school. It is slated to welcome an inaugural class of 75 students in 2027, with enrollment gradually increasing to 150 students per class.
“This historic gift will allow Xavier to take on an essential role in our nation’s primary care landscape,” said President Colleen Hanycz. “As our university approaches two centuries of intellectual, moral, and spiritual education for our students, we continue laying the foundation for a Xavier that impacts even more lives in the decades ahead. I could not be more grateful for the extraordinary generosity of this donor.”
