University of Michigan president Santa Ono inked a contract extension with the Board of Regents through 2032, MLive.com reported.

The extension comes as Ono wrapped up the second year of a five-year contract. The board gave him a positive performance evaluation at its October meeting, highlighting Ono’s strategic plans and the university’s recent enrollment growth. The university enrolled a record 52,855 students this fall.

Along with the extension, the regents also raised his base salary from $975,000 to $1.3 million, according to MLive.

“We are extraordinarily fortunate to have President Ono as our president,” Regent Denise Ilitch said in a statement. “We’ve seen him step up countless times to ensure the UM meets its mission to serve the people of our state, advance knowledge and make ours a more equitable and sustainable world.”

Ono said in a statement that he was “humbled and grateful” for the opportunity to continue to lead the university.

“Our university is a collective of extraordinary individuals, working at all levels, to push the boundaries of knowledge, make world-changing discoveries and educate the next generation of leaders,” he said in a statement.
