The University of Richmond, which has been criticized this fall by students and others who say that the institution has not properly handled allegations of sex assaults, on Friday announced reforms in its procedures. In a statement to the campus, President Ronald A. Crutcher announced the creation of a new Center for Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, the separation of investigations from undergraduate colleges so that the inquiries would be handled in a centralized way, and the creation of an advisory committee to suggest further changes in policy.
On social media, student groups that have been pushing Richmond to do more to prevent and punish sex assaults said that the university was moving in the right direction. But some said that more still needed to be done, particularly on some past allegations of sex assault.
