Grace College, a private Christian institution in Indiana, will offer free tuition to eligible low-income students in the state starting in the fall, according to an announcement by the college Monday.

Incoming students will qualify for the funding if they have an expected family contribution of $1,500 or below on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The move comes as college leaders across the country take measures to alleviate the financial burdens low-income students and their families are facing amid a pandemic that led to widespread job loss and economic hardship

The college will cover tuition using a combination of federal, state and institutional aid, said Mark Pohl, associate vice president of enrollment management and financial aid.

“We have many students who fit the criteria and live locally,” he said in a written statement. “Hundreds of admitted students qualify, and many have already made plans to attend Grace this fall.”
