Newman U Calls Off Talk by Kansas Judge

Newman University has called off a planned appearance by Carol Beier, a Kansas Supreme Court justice, amid what officials called "unsettling" remarks on social media about the visit, The Wichita Eagle reported. Some of the comments opposed Beier's appearance because she has as a justice upheld abortion rights, a view that some alumni of the Roman Catholic university reject. But officials said that the decision was made based on safety concerns, not Beier's views.
