The Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and the former president of the group, Edward O. Blews Jr., have issued a joint statement announcing the settlement of a dispute over the dismissal of Blews after a brief tenure. Blews charged in a lawsuit that the council made it appear that he had been fired for cause, allowing the group to avoid paying him the money it would owe for firing him without cause.

The announcement of the settlement said that its terms would be kept confidential. The settlement said, in part: "The CCCU board acknowledges that the use of the term 'investigation' in the original announcement of Blews’ transition from the presidency of the CCCU may have caused incorrect assumptions. The CCCU board and former President Blews wish to declare that there was no legal or financial wrongdoing nor any moral turpitude on Dr. Blews’ part. The board recognizes that he is a person of deep faith. The CCCU board and Blews have parted ways because of philosophical differences over leadership approach vis-à-vis the culture of the council and because of fundamental differences in management style and priorities."
