Hampton University, a historically Black university in Virginia, announced Friday that it will be suspending spring competition for several sports, including football. Cross-country, indoor and outdoor track and field, and tennis for both men and women will be suspended. Women’s softball, volleyball, triathlon and soccer will also be suspended, in addition to men’s lacrosse and football, and coed sailing.

On Oct. 21, Hampton president William Harvey announced that the university will be continuing with remote instruction for the spring semester.

Men’s and women’s basketball will be played on a modified schedule and streamed on ESPN+.

“These two sports will compete due to the fact that both programs are self-contained and compete outside of the campus foot print. No fans will be present at any home contests,” the athletics program said in the announcement.
