Do you have colleagues who have embellished their laptops in particularly striking or memorable ways?
How do laptop lids differ between faculty, staff, and students?
Are professors more likely to express political beliefs in how they decorate their laptops than staff - or less?
Would a cultural anthropologist, or maybe a sociologist, be able to say something meaningful about the culture of your campus by looking at the open laptops? What might they say about your campus?
How have laptop decorations changed over the years? Has the spread of smartphones changed how we customize our laptops?
Is there a wealth aspect to laptop design, with the students of some institutions relying on computer labs for their computing (and hence not having laptops to personalize)?
Is there any prohibition at your school from customizing university-owned laptops?
