Whatever you think about the pros or cons of the for-profit educational sector, one thing I think we can all agree on is that the for-profits are losing the communications game. Perhaps my circle of colleagues is unrepresentative, and perhaps the for-profits are unconcerned what educators in the non-profit world think, but I've seen a real shift in recent months toward a more critical stance about for-profits among my peers.

Over the past two-days my institution held our Active Learning Institute, a professional development opportunity focused on teaching and learning. The Active Learning Institute is run out of our Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL), with participants drawn from faculty, lab instructors, and future teaching faculty.

We signed up today for the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative 2010 Online Fall Focus Session - "Blended Learning: The 21st-Century Learning Environment". The sessions are on September 15th and 16th (noon to 5:30), and include keynote and plenary sessions, follow-up Q&A's, project rounds, and scenario discussions.
