Texas State University -- in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation and the Daughters of the Confederacy -- has moved a highway marker honoring Jefferson Davis to another location off the campus. The marker was put up on the land before it became part of Texas State. In recent years, some faculty members and students have objected to the marker, but the university has said that it could not move the marker unilaterally since the marker was technically owned by the state's transportation division. The move was finalized when the state department agreed, a spokesman for the university said, because Texas State shared the view that the marker was "inappropriate" for the university.
