International student recruitment to colleges and universities in the U.S. plummeted during the pandemic, dropping 15% in academic year 2020–21. Worldwide restrictions on travel and difficulties in obtaining visas severely limited global movement and barred many foreign students from pursuing their studies in the U.S. Despite these hurdles, the number of international students enrolled at U.S. higher ed institutions appears to be rebounding.
